OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Kūhai Hālau O ʻIlima Pā ʻŌlapa Kahiko (KHOI) stands as a traditional hālau hula (hula school), located in the coastal community of Oceanside, CA. Our hālau is passionately committed to fostering cultural learning among our haumāna (students) through the art of hula. At the core of our mission is the dedication to learning, teaching, and perpetuating every facet of hula, drawn from our ancestral lineage.

Our approach extends beyond physical movement of dance, encompassing the holistic spectrum of Hawaiian tradition. Guided by the pillars of ʻōlelo (language), mele (song), moʻolelo (stories), and hana noʻeau (crafts), KHOI strives to cultivate an understanding of the profound cultural legacy encapsulated in hula. By immersing our 'ohana (family) in these diverse elements, we aim to not only preserve but also propagate Hawaiʻi's cultural heritage.
